The spill of benzene occurred at Cherepovets steel mill

I. About 2.5 tons of benzene spilled at the site of Cherepovets steel mill (CHerMK), threats to the environment there, the company is operating normally, said the Governor of the Vologda region Oleg Kuvshinnikov at the end of the visit to the plant.

According to Kuvshinnikova, checking wastewater and stormwater traces of benzene is not detected.

"The threats to people and the environment no. The enterprise works in a regular mode. Technological incident is settled" - he concluded.

Cherepovets steel mill – an asset of Severstal, one of the world's largest vertically integrated steel and mining companies with key assets in Russia and a small number of enterprises abroad. The main beneficiary is Alexei Mordashov (77,03% of the shares). The company employs about 50 thousand people. By the end of 2019 Severstal reduced steel production by 2% to 11,847 million tons.
