Patriarch Kirill on Sunday consecrated the main temple of the Russian Armed forces

Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia will perform on Sunday, the consecration of Resurrection Cathedral – the main temple of the Russian Armed forces.

The temple and the war Museum was erected in the Moscow Park "Patriot" for the 75th anniversary of Victory in the great Patriotic war. They planned to open on Victory Day, but the consecration of the Cathedral was postponed because of the epidemic of the coronavirus.

"To perform the great consecration of the temple – almost the same as to breathe life into it. At this moment he begins to exist as a Shrine, the house of God – now there will be prayers and ordinances", - told RIA Novosti Chairman of the expert Council of the Russian Orthodox Church on Church art, architecture and restoration Archpriest Leonid Kalinin, who also headed the artistic Council for the construction of the Cathedral.

According to him, in the rank of the consecration, which will last 2.5 hours, will be attended by 10 bishops and about 20 priests, as well as the leadership of the Ministry of defense and representatives of the Federal authorities.

On the territory of the temple complex will also open a gallery-Museum "Road of memory". Its length - 1418 steps, the number of days of the great Patriotic war. There are data on more than 33 millions of war veterans and their surviving photos.

Of the features of the temple - the image of the Saviour — "the largest image of the face of Christ, made in the mosaic technique," said the Patriarch. The total area of the mosaics of the upper and lower temples of almost 4 thousand square meters. The height of the temple is 75 metres, that too by chance, because it was built for the anniversary of the Victory.

The lower Church dedicated to the Holy equal to the apostles great Prince Vladimir, the Baptizer of Rus. The upper Church - the Resurrection of Christ. All four aisles of the upper Church dedicated to the patron saints of the armed forces. So, the prophet Elijah — the patron Saint of aerospace and airborne troops of Russia, Prince Alexander Nevsky — the army, the great Martyr Varvara — the strategic Missile forces and the Apostle Andrew the first-called - Navy. The vaults of the upper Church is decorated with stained glass Windows with images of the military orders.
