Russia day is celebrated in South Ossetia as a national holiday, says the congratulation message of the head of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov, Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"In South Ossetia, where most residents are Russian citizens, Russia Day is celebrated as a national holiday of the Republic. The name of the Russian people of South Ossetia connects the salvation of the national disaster in August 2008, progress on the path of revival, their hopes for a better future and the fate of the Fatherland," - said in greeting.

According to Bibilov, South Ossetia will always do everything in its power to further strengthen the strategic partnership of cooperation and friendship with Russia, which will always remain the center of attraction of the people. "Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, on behalf of the management, the people of the Republic of South Ossetia and personally myself I cordially congratulate You and in Your person all people of the Russian Federation's national holiday – the Day of Russia", - said in the congratulation.

Russia day is celebrated on June 12. On this day in 1990 adopted the Declaration on state sovereignty of Russia. Henceforth, in all matters of state and public life of the Federation enjoyed full authority. In may 1991, the RSFSR Supreme Soviet has declared June 12 a public holiday. A year later, in June 1992 - this day was named a holiday.

By the decree of the President of Russia of June 2, 1994, the Day of adoption of Declaration on state sovereignty of the Russian Federation was declared a public holiday. The name "Russia Day" was officially assigned to the festival in 2002 when entered into force the new Labour code, which had been prescribed new holidays and weekends.
