Passenger traffic at airports in Sweden decreased by 98% due to pandemic

Passenger numbers in the ten largest Swedish airport because of a pandemic coronavirus decreased by 98%, according to statistics released Tuesday by the operator Swedavia.

"In may, ten Swedavia airports have been about 80 thousand passengers. This is a decrease of 98% compared to 3.6 million passengers recorded in the same period last year," the company said.

The head of the company Yunus Abrahamsson expects some increase in passenger numbers after the weakening of quarantine measures in the EU, but believes that to expect a return to previous volumes in the coming months is not worth it.

"Due to the fact that the restrictions are weakened, we see a clear indication that airlines are cautious plan to increase the traffic. This is a positive sign, but we're still talking about very low level. We do not expect a quick recovery of traffic in the coming months" - presented in the statement of the word Abrahamsson.

Swedavia operates ten airports in Sweden, among them the country's largest international airports, Arlanda in Stockholm and Landvetter in Gothenburg.
