The media warned of the threat of a strong earthquake in India

A strong earthquake may occur in the national capital district of India, according to the publication Business Today citing geophysicists of certain institutions.

National capital territory of Delhi includes not only the country's capital new Delhi and some districts of nearby States of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Experts note that over the past three months in the region occurred on 11 weak earthquakes, but only in the last two years in the Metropolitan area marked 64 quake, the magnitude of which ranged from 4.0 to 4.9 and eight earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 or more.

"Periodic tremors point to a strong earthquake," said Prosanta Kumar Khan, Professor, Department of applied Geophysics Indian Institute of technology.

The experts urged the government of India and government of Delhi to take preventive action in case of possible strong earthquake.

As the head of the Institute of Geology of the Himalayas named Wadia Dr. Kalachand Sain, although geophysicists cannot say exactly when an earthquake happens and whether it is generally, they believe that the frequent small tremors indicate a possible strong earthquake.

Delhi is located near the Himalayas, where previously marked by several strong earthquakes magnitude of which was greater than 8.0. A number of studies show that in this area there is a possibility of several strong earthquakes, which can seriously affect the national capital region of India.
