Zelensky discussed the situation in Donbass with the Pope
The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky discussed by telephone with Pope Francis the situation in the Donbass, in the course of the conversation he asked for help in releasing prisoners in uncontrolled Kiev territory of the region, as well as Ukrainians in Russia, said on Friday the press-service of the Ukrainian President.
"The President informed his Holiness about the security situation in the Donbass and appealed to the Holy see with a request on assistance in the release of all Ukrainians illegally held in the occupied part of Donbass, to Crimea and Russia", - stated in the message.
According to the press service, the Pontiff thanked Zelensky for his desire for a peaceful settlement in the Donbass.
In addition, Francis said that dealing with the issue of liberation of the Ukrainian soldier Vitaly Marcia, which the Italian court found guilty in the murder of journalist Andrea Rokkelli in the Donbass.
However, the two sides discussed the crisis situation in the world that has developed because of the pandemic coronavirus COVID-19. They also talked about bilateral cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. Agreements were reached to strengthen cooperation in health and environmental protection.
This year's first exchange between Kiev and DPR and LPR took place on 16 April. Kiev gave 14 people, the LPR and DPR – 20.
