Kosachev called illegal threats of US sanctions

Russia will continue construction of the "Nord stream – 2", carrying out the project together with its European partners, the sanctions threat from the US is illegal, said RIA Novosti on Thursday the head of the international Committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.

Earlier, a group of US senators introduced a bill to impose sanctions against the insurers of the ships employed in laying the "Nord stream – 2".

"It is astounding the level of arrogance of the initiator of the bill Senator Ted Cruz, who called the pipeline "a critical threat to US national security". Where the Baltic and where the United States? And here the national security of the United States? Unless you understand a lot of the commercial interests of the United States," - said the politician.

And because the ratio of these sanctions threats remained the same - "they are illegal from a legal point of view, and they are cynical all the rest", said Kosachev.

According to the Senator, the reaction of Russia if the bill is passed, will remain the same - "to act according to our plans agreed with partners in Germany and other countries-EU members participating in the project".

"Nord stream-2" involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. Against the project actively advocate USA, in the EU promoting its liquefied natural gas, as well as Ukraine and several European countries. States in December imposed sanctions against the project, demanding that the companies doing the strip, to immediately stop the construction. Swiss Allseas almost immediately announced the suspension of the gas pipeline.
