The head of the CEC of Belarus has asked the SC to assess the actions of the blogger Tikhanovski

The head of the Central election Commission of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina said that appealed to the Investigative Committee of the Republic with the request to check whether they are covered by the actions of the blogger Sergei Tikhanovski, whose wife is being nominated for the presidency of the country under criminal charges of obstructing the elections and the work of the CEC.

Presidential elections in Belarus scheduled for 9 August. Currently, signatures in support of his nomination candidates collected 14 contenders for the presidency. Including nominated Svetlana Tikhanovski, whose husband, videobloger, failed to register his initiative group. However tikhanovski, who is the head of the initiative group of his wife, and his supporters gather mass pickets to collect signatures in support of nomination of his wife. Registration of presidential candidates will be held from 5 to 14 July, after which starts the period of election campaign.

"I have prepared a petition to the Investigative Committee, which asked to consider the actions of the individual, I mean Mr. Tikhanovski and his initiative group..., do not fit his actions in article 191 of the criminal code of Belarus that says about the obstruction of the elections, the Central and other electoral commissions-including by threats," she was quoted as saying during a meeting of the CEC on Thursday, which was broadcast on the Commission's website.

The CEC head stressed that it is "as a natural person and a citizen sees a threat (in his address - ed.) in connection with the performance of professional duties." "This is not just a threat, it is real, it is preparing to declare a mass training... I asked the Investigative Committee to check, to give its legal assessment and, if necessary, of course, to bring the person to criminal responsibility," - said Yarmoshyna.

She expressed doubts about the peaceful nature of the pickets, who spent tikhanovski and his supporters. "What does the inscription on the picket MS Tikhanovski with the words "Kill" and then insulting nickname for me? This word is a synonym of "kill, destroy", it is a direct threat to picket to collect signatures," - said the CEC head.

She added that tikhanovski proposed to his supporters to gather for a rally outside the house Yermoshina in Minsk and "at the same time to visit". The head of the CEC stated that it sees this as a call for a home invasion. "This is assault in connection with the performance of my professional duties in... are trained to picket, give notice in the context of the blog... Where the security of the home, where the tranquility of the citizens?", - said Yarmoshyna, bearing in mind the safety of their neighbors.

At the end of may in Grodno held a picket in support of the nomination of a presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovski, which was detained Sergei tikhanovski, and about ten of his supporters. The interior Ministry then said that the picketers were arrested for violence against police officers. According to the interior Ministry, during a rally two policemen were inflicted injuries of varying severity they were hospitalized. Investigators opened a criminal case over violence against employees of the internal Affairs bodies. The third of June, the law enforcement officers during a search of the garden of the mother Tikhanovski found there 900 thousand dollars. According to the criminal code of Belarus, article "Violence or threat of violence against an employee of the internal Affairs bodies" provides punishment in the form of arrest or restriction of liberty for a term up to five years, or deprivation of liberty for a term up to six years. Belarusian human rights activists have said they believe Tikhanovski a political prisoner and demanded his release.
