On elimination of consequences of state of emergency in Norilsk is not enough 14 days, said USS

The Governor of Krasnoyarsk region Alexander USS has declared that the region could not cope with the liquidation of consequences of state of emergency in Norilsk spill fuel in the stated period – for two weeks.

The Governor reported this information to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin at the meeting on the elimination of spilled diesel fuel in the Krasnoyarsk region.

According to the head of the region, in a radius of 20 kilometers the roads, no transport schemes, and the river itself is not navigable. Based on this, he noted, the primary option of disposal of the collected oil is burning in containers.

"I believe that the experience of burning this amount of fuel on-site, at least in Krasnoyarsk region, we have, therefore, to predict that it will be successful within 14 days, unfortunately I can't," said USS.

At first it was reported that the fire and fuel spill began after a tank at CHP plant 3 was hit by a car, but later SK the Russian Federation has put forward a different version. According to investigators, the first leaky tank, fuel spilled on the roadway, after which the fire started and lit up a passing car.

According to preliminary data of the authorities, the bottom of the tank sprung a leak because of sagging of the soil. From the tank poured out about 20 thousand tons of diesel fuel, some of it went to the local Creek and stream in the Barn.
