In Belarus began a rally in support of presidential candidates

Hundreds of Belarusians gathered Sunday in the center of Minsk, near Kamarouski market, where the pickets in support of the nomination of presidential candidates Svetlana Tikhanovski and other participants of the election campaign, an alternative to the incumbent President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

Pickets started in the center of Minsk at noon, but even before they started people were lined up to sign in support of nomination interesting potential presidential candidates. Many of the audience vote for the nomination unemployed Svetlana Tikhanovski, who decided to take part in a political campaign after her husband, Belarusian blogger Sergei tikhanovski, failed to register his initiative group for nominating a candidate and, therefore, could not himself participate in the elections. Tikhanovski is the head of the initiative group of his wife.

On Friday, blogger was detained by the Belarusian police during a picket to collect signatures in Grodno, was also arrested nine of his supporters. On Saturday, the press service of the MIA reported that the detained person, including previous convictions, which was repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility, because they used violence against police officers with the purpose of obstructing their lawful activities.

Also near the market held pickets in support of other candidates - former Chairman of the Board of Belgazprombank Viktor Babariko, former head of the HTP administration Valery Tsepkalo, acting Chairman of the United civil party Nikolai Kozlov.

All of those wishing to subscribe for Tikhanovski stretched for hundreds of meters, to the streets of Coleman. Also formed a queue of those wishing to maintain Tsepkalo and Babariko. Mostly people come to the pickets in protective masks due to the spread of the coronavirus, collecting signatures also work in masks and gloves. Two hours after the start of the pickets, they turned into a spontaneous meeting near the entrance to Kamarouski market, then came several law enforcement officers who warned that the rally is not sanctioned, and encouraged those present to disperse.

Earlier, Lukashenko visited the Minsk tractor plant, where he talked with the team. Answering one of the questions he spoke about his rivals in the presidential election and expressed doubt that the electoral campaign can defeat a woman. Speaking of Tikhanovski, the President called him "mangy" he added that he knows "whose machines he drives, who are financing" and "what's his citizenship." Ex-banker Babariko Lukashenko advised to think where he will work after the elections. And with respect to Tsepkalo, who previously also worked as the assistant to the Belarusian leader, Lukashenko said that he "cunning" and does not mention the real reason for his dismissal.

Presidential elections in Belarus scheduled for 9 August. Central election Commission of Belarus has registered 15 initiative groups to collect signatures in support of nomination of candidates, one contender later refused to participate in the election campaign. Registration of candidates will be held from 5 to 14 July. After that starts the period of election campaign.
