The foreign Ministry assessed the chances of extension start-3
The chances that the Treaty on strategic offensive arms, which expires in February 2021, will be extended, tend to zero, said Russian Deputy foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
"In my opinion, the chances that the start Treaty will be extended, quickly tend to zero, and I think that on 5 February 2021, the contract simply expires, it will stop. No start on 6 February, we will be gone," said Ryabkov in an interview with The National Interest.
He noted that the approach of the administration of the President of the United States Donald trump to start quite strange. "First, we understand the reasons why the administration trump wants China to become a party in any future negotiations on arms control or agreement, but at the same time, we understand why China doesn't want to be part of these agreements, therefore, in our opinion, Washington needs to address this issue with Beijing. And in the absence of a clear and open consent of the other party i.e. China - negotiations with China or with China will not. It is a reality that must be acknowledged," - said Ryabkov.
That is why, stressed Ryabkov, Russia offers US to extend the start Treaty in its current form for a further five years in order to then effortlessly to engage in the discussion of problematic issues and their solution", taking into account all aspects of challenges, including those associated with new military technologies."
