Pompeo praised the decision by a Venezuelan court in the displacement of Guido
U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo called fictive decision of the Supreme court of Venezuela recognized the legitimacy of the ousting of opposition leader Juan Guido from the post of speaker of Parliament.

At a formal meeting of the Parliament on 5 January 2020, instead of Huang Guido for the post of speaker was elected Luis Parra. After this, the deputies-supporters of Guido gathered separately, and decided that he remains in the post of speaker for the next annual period. The expert from the international crisis group Ivan Briscoe explained to RIA Novosti that in fact this action dislodged Guido from the post of speaker of the National Assembly and deprived him of the opportunity of the proclamation of the interim President.
In Venezuela, 21 January 2019, the mass protests against President Nicolas Maduro shortly after the oath of office. The head of the National Assembly, controlled by the opposition, Juan Guido illegally declared himself interim head of state. A number of Western countries led by the US announced its recognition of Guido. In turn, Maduro called the head of the Parliament a puppet of the US. Russia, China, Turkey and several other countries have supported Maduro as the legitimate President. In Moscow called "presidential status" of Guido non-existent.
