The US decision on the withdrawal of almost 12 thousand troops from Germany and their relocation to other European countries to NATO will not affect the ability of the US to contain Russia, said US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo.
"In those comments from Russia that I've seen says that they feel threatened by our action, because our soldiers will be deployed closer to Russia's borders," said Pompeo at the hearings in Congress.
The headquarters of US forces in Europe will be transferred from Germany to Belgium, said the commander of U.S. forces in Europe and Supreme allied commander of NATO forces in Europe, General Todd Walters.
"With regard to the location of the headquarters of the European command. Now, as you know, he is in Stuttgart (Germany). After solving some issues we expect that it will be displaced to Mons in Belgium," said Walters at a press conference.
