Earlier, the Senator referred to the statement of the speaker of the German government Steffen Seibert, who described how 30 years ago at a meeting with the leadership of Germany in Arkhyz, the Soviet leader agreed to a United Germany's joining NATO. Pushkov has called these actions "geopolitical capitulation." According to him, Gorbachev at that time was more concerned with getting the Nobel peace prize than national interests.
